Brace for Change and Reshaping of Roles
Last week, The LaunchPad returned with a blog post focused on Generative AI and some of the ways in which both Sales and Marketing teams are already beginning to feel its impact.
In this follow-up, Let's dive deeper into the realm of job transformation and explore some examples of positions that might be replaced as a function of Generative AI.
Data Analysts
Generative AI excels at analyzing vast amounts of data and identifying patterns, rendering traditional data analysis roles vulnerable. AI systems can automate data processing, prediction modeling, and even generate actionable insights. While human data analysts will still be required to interpret and apply these insights, their roles will evolve to focus more on strategic decision-making and providing context to AI-generated findings.
Social Media Managers
Generative AI algorithms can create engaging content and personalized social media posts, reducing the need for extensive manual content creation and curation. With AI tools, businesses can automate content generation, optimize scheduling, and maintain consistent messaging across various platforms. Social media managers can shift their focus to strategy development, community engagement, and building authentic connections with their target audience.
Telemarketers
Generative AI-powered chatbots have become increasingly sophisticated in handling routine customer inquiries, significantly reducing the need for telemarketers. Chatbots can provide basic product information, troubleshoot common issues, and even facilitate transactions. As a result, businesses can streamline customer support while reallocating resources to more complex customer interactions that require human empathy and problem-solving skills.
Market Researchers
Generative AI algorithms can swiftly analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and competitor insights by processing massive amounts of data. As a result, the need for extensive manual market research and data collection may diminish. Market researchers can leverage AI-generated reports and recommendations to inform strategic planning, identify emerging opportunities, and focus on more nuanced aspects of research such as consumer sentiment analysis.
Sales Support Administrators
With Generative AI automating tasks such as lead generation, data entry, and sales pipeline management, the role of sales support administrators may evolve or be absorbed by AI systems. Routine administrative tasks can be seamlessly handled by AI, allowing sales teams to concentrate on relationship building, negotiation, and strategic sales initiatives that require human expertise and creativity.
Is that it?
Put simply, no.
It’s likely just the tip of the iceberg and at this early stage of the game, it’s hard to say just how deep and broad the impact will be. But directionally, there is no question that change is on the way — and fast. Will this wipe some roles out in the near(ish)-term? Yes, that’s likely. But our bet is that a broader "reshaping” will be underway in which you’ll see a consolidation of certain sales and marketing functions, aligned to folks that have educated themselves (deeply) in how to leverage Generative AI effectively and at scale to undertake what used to be a full team’s responsibility.
This isn’t the first or last time that a transformative technology comes along to seemingly rewrite the rules of what’s possible. But to familiarize yourself with what it can do, how it might fit into your industry, company, or department will prepare you for what’s fast approaching.
If not, you might just be a dinosaur awaiting the asteroid.
